Part of a project that I have to do for my Socialogy class is to come up with a wedding. Well, mine is a really cute one...

Wedding Details
When: Spring.
Where: Scotland, on a Cliffside over looking the ocean. Also near a castle. Or in a Scottish Kirk (church).
Theme: Scottish/Celtic
The average Scottish wedding begins at 4 PM followed by the reception with formal meal, champagne toast, and speeches at 5 PM and then the wedding dance at 7:30 PM until the wee small hours!
Maid-of-Honour: Red dress
Bridesmaids: Blue dress
Flower girl: White dress
Page Boy: Informal kilt and poet shirt.
Rings: Traditional Scottish wedding bands.
Groomsmen and Piper: Argyll Highland Outfit: Traditional 8 yard medium weight kilt and Sword Style Kilt Pin, Argyle jacket, Semi Dress Sporran and chain, Black Leather Montrose Belt, Buckle, Kilt Hose, Garters and Flashes, dirk (Decorative knife worn in the sock), Gillie Brogue Shoes with leather sole. Kilt plaid is the MacDougall plaid. White carnations in jacket pocket.
Bridal Gown: Wedding gown with the plaid wedding sash attached with the Luckenbooth brooch. Plaid is the MacDougall plaid. Around the head will be a circlet of gold over the sheer white veil.
· Luckenbooth brooch - This Scottish brooch usually of engraved silver in the shape of a heart or two hearts entwined and is used chiefly as a love token or betrothal brooch. Sometimes there is a crown. The heart (love) and crown (loyalty) both appear on the claddagh ring too. Luckenbooth brooches are of late 19th or early 20th century origin. Sometimes the brooch was pinned to the couple's firstborn's blanket as a good luck charm. Luckenbooths are usually worn by women.

Groom’s Attire: Prince Charlie Highland Outfit (full Highland dress): Traditional 8 yard kilt in a 13oz Pure New Wool worsted fabric, Barathea Jacket, Vest and Black Satin Bow Tie, Wing Collar White Cotton Shirt, Dress Sporran and Chain, Kilt Pin and dirk, Black Leather Montrose Buckle and Belt, Tartan Flashes and Kilt Hose, Black Gillie Brogues with Leather sole. Decorations: If on the cliff, an arch where the bride and groom exchange vows. All the flowers should be white, especially white heather since it is good luck in Scotland.
Music: Bagpipes
Reception: In a Scottish castle
· Bride & Groom are 'piped' to their seat and later as they cut the cake. The Bride will cut the cake with a dirk provided by the piper, the Brides hand being guided by the Groom.
· ‘Sweeties’ placed on the tables next to name cards wrapped in lace or tartan.
· Usually a 'ceilidh' will follow with traditional dancing - the band usually demonstrates the dances - unless of course you have an expert in your own family. The Bride and Groom will lead off the dancing with a traditional reel.
· As a mark of respect to their parents they would then do a reel first with the Brides parents and then with the Groom's parents.
· During the dancing it is traditional for the Bride to 'throw her bouquet' over her shoulder to the unmarried women attending, and it is said whoever catches the bouquet will be the next to marry.
· The Groom also removes the traditional blue garter from the Bride and throws it to the single men - again whoever catches it will be the next to marry - sometimes the man who caught it then puts it on the lady who caught the bouquet!
Ceremonial Things:
· The Groom pins a small tartan ribbon of his Clan onto the Brides dress to symbolize the joining of the Clan.
· Piper leads the bride up the Aisle to begin the ceremony and leading the newly married couple out of the Kirk.
· The Scottish groom wears a kilt in the colors of his clan's plaid, and he wraps a sash of this same plaid over his bride's shoulders, symbolizing that she is now part of his family.
· Bouquets and corsages include tartan ribbons or bows.
· The task of the pageboy is to present a lucky silver horseshoe to the bride as she steps out of the church on the arms of her husband.
· At many Scottish weddings a piper is on hand to lead the happy couple from the church to the waiting car.
· Traditionally the groom, best man, and ushers wear white carnations and other male guests wear red ones. Lady guests may wear a buttonhole of carnations, orchids, or camellias to match their outfits.
Honeymoon: Two weeks touring France.
